Invisalign – How the Process Works

With Invisalign, a series of special, custom fitted aligner trays are created for you by Dr. Galbraith. These trays are very smooth, so they don’t abrade your gums, cheeks, or the inside of your lips. They are also extremely comfortable and are almost invisible: no one will know that you’re wearing an Invisalign aligner tray or trays unless you choose to tell them.

The aligners will gradually, with very little discomfort, work to shift your teeth into their proper position within your mouth, based on a series of graduated steps set-out by Dr. Galbraith. It usually takes about a year for the Invisalign teeth straightening process to be completed; however, every patient is different and your situation may call for a longer or shorter treatment.

Approximately every two weeks – Dr. Galbraith will let you know the proper schedule – you will start with a new set of aligner trays. These trays are designed to work consecutively, each one further moving your teeth into the right space. You will wear your custom aligner trays throughout the day and night, for best results, only removing them when you eat and when you need to floss and brush your teeth.

The Invisalign Treatment Process

Your first step toward straightening your teeth is to make an appointment with Dr. Galbraith for an examination and assessment. During this appointment, Dr. Galbraith will discuss with you the Invisalign teeth straightening system, perform a dental exam, and determine whether you’re a good candidate for Invisalign. If you are a good candidate, Dr. Galbraith will take x- rays of your teeth and also take painless impressions of your mouth. These are used to create your individualized treatment plan, mapping the exact movement of your teeth into the proper alignment.

Next, a custom series of clear aligner trays will be created for you. You will take these trays home with you – in fact, you’ll wear your first set while leaving our offices at Sango Family Dentistry – and follow the treatment schedule determined by Dr. Galbraith. About every six weeks you’ll need to return to our offices so Dr. Galbraith can monitor the progress being made and ensure that all is proceeding according to plan.

After about a year of Invisalign treatment, your teeth will be perfectly aligned, giving you the
